Do You Feel Like You Work All The Time?
April 13, 2008
As the owner of a business, everything is on your shoulders. You have the rent, customer satisfaction, marketing, employee satisfaction, hiring, firing, payroll (to meet and to file), accounts payable, taxes, the list goes on and on.
I’m assuming you didn’t start the restaurant business to work all the time. Most business owners dream of the day when they can actually take a vacation peacefully without worrying everything will collapse in their absence. It doesn’t happen overnight but it can happen.
Pick one thing you do every month and delegate it. Take one thing you no longer want to do and jot down the process. Give it to someone and make it their responsibility.
It’s hard to believe but it’s that simple. Sometimes it’s hard to give up things. You’re the only one that can do it well, correct? Remember, McDonalds is run by high school kids usually with an absentee owner. How do they do it? Procedures, delegation and accountability.
Try it for a few weeks or months. You may be surprised how much time you can free up.
